The Business All-Star program is an annual competition designed to identify and recognise Irish companies and individuals that have distinguished themselves in the conduct of their business over the last 12 months.Divided into 21 categories, ranging from All-Stars New Business to All-Star Innovative Business, the line up reflects the diverse stages of development and vertical specialisation of Irish companies.Winners in each category are designated with All-Star status and as such represent the highest current performance level in Irish business, and are presented as a standard or benchmark to be equaled or exceeded.All-Star title holders will have proven through a rigorous judging process, to be on merit, worthy recipients of the accolade.May the Best Win!
The All Star Judges & Process
The 2018 All-Star Judging panel is Chaired by Dr. Briga Hynes of the Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick and assisted by Deputy Chair Kieran F. Ring of the Global Institute of Logistics. The Chairs will be supported by a panel of industry experts.
Over the course of the next 11 weeks, applications will be reviewed and the applicant company's principle, its customers and trading partners spoken to by a member of the judging panel.
In phases, using a scorecard the judges will whittle down the original longlist of applicants to a shortlist of finalists. Finalists will be announced on Wednesday March 11th. In keeping with the spirit of Croke Park and the competition, the All-Star final round of judging will take place on the day of the All-Ireland Business Summit on Thursday, April 19th. On the day, the 120 candidates that have made it to the final round will meet with the judging panel, face to face.
As in sport there can only be one overall winner, in each category. However, the standard required to reach the All-Star Final guarantees there will be very little between the finalists on the day. Consequently, in recognition of reaching the final, all participants in Croke Park will be accredited with the All-Star Award of Excellence.

In the spirit of good governance and indeed that of Best in Class, three of the 100 points available are specifically granted to entrants who submit their application before the deadline of Monday, February 19th. Founder & Managing Director of Supermac's
Pat McDonagh is the founder and Managing Director of Ireland’s most successful indigenous quick service restaurant group, Supermac’s. Supermac’s currently operates 108 restaurants throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland. The company employs over 2,700 people nationally and has helped to establish up to 60 self-employed franchisees in their own successful businesses.
Pat is married to Una and they have 4 children. Marie, Siobhán, John & Conor. He is highly involved in the day-to-day running of the company, overseeing each business project from inception to full implementation. Pat is joined on the board of directors by Una, who is also actively involved in the running of the business.
Pat started his career as a teacher and, having always had an interest in business, he decided to explore this further by opening his first restaurant outlet in Ballinasloe in 1978. Having played a lot of sport in secondary school, he earned his nickname during a Gaelic Football match when one of the supporters on the side line christened him, “Supermac”. This then became the natural choice of name for his business, “Supermac’s”. Pat met Una very early on in the story of Supermac’s and both have been key and instrumental to the success story it has become.
Pat & Una have expanded their hospitality business interests through the purchase and development of the Castletroy Park Hotel in Limerick, the Loughrea Hotel & Spa, the Charleville Park Hotel in Cork and the Killeshin Hotel in Portlaoise.
Pat is a keen sports fan, having a particular interest in GAA. Supermac’s is one of the country’s longest serving sponsor of a GAA intercounty team having begun its sponsorship of Galway hurling in 1991. Supermac’s currently sponsors Galway Football as well as Galway Hurling, Galway Camogie, Galway Ladies Football, Galway Ladies Soccer and Galway United. Supermac’s also supports drama groups, schools, local events and festivals nationally as well. In 2016 Supermac’s became a Gold Sponsor of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann and this all shows that Supermac’s relationship with the communities in which it has stores is another important part of its success story.

Brian McEniff (born 1 December 1942) is a former Gaelic football manager. Regarded as a Gaelic football Godfather-type the high point of his managerial career was his masterminding of Donegal's 1992 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final victory over Dublin. In his most recent spell as manager of his county team he led them to the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship semi-finals in 2003.
McEniff has also managed Ulster for 25 years from 1982 until 2007, and has coached the Ireland international rules football team to victory over the Australia international rules football team in Australia. As a player, he received an All Star Award in 1972 and twice won the Ulster Senior Football Championship.

Ramona Nicholas is a self-made, Award winning, Entrepreneur who is the Joint Managing Director of the Cara Group, holding 16 Pharmacies, 2 Home stores and a thriving online store.
The Cara Group was formed with her husband in 2002, and the group has grown to a turnover of circa €38 Million. Employing over 245 staff, their head office and distribution centre is based in Co. Sinead - First Visually-Impaired Athlete To Complete The World Marathon Challenge & Holder of 2 Guinness World Records With John - Her Coach & Guide Runner

Sport is a wonderful educator and HR can learn much from it. Assessing your team and actively implementing change are both keys to taking your returns to the next level.Meet Sinead Kane and John O’Regan who show that a good team achieves winning results. Sinead Kane & John O’Regan joined forces back in December 2014. This was after Sinead had completed her first attempt at the Marathon Distance in October 2014. John spotted potential and thought that Sinead might be an untapped talent so he suggested that she try a longer race. John is the International Teams Coordinator for Ultra Running with Athletics Ireland and has captained the team at World Championship level. John not only became Sinead’s guide runner but also her coach and team mate. As John says: ‘To make the dream work you have to have team work.’ Sinead needs a guide runner because she is registered as blind. She just has 5% vision. Sinead may lack eyesight but she can fully see where she is going in terms of her goals. In February 2015, Sinead and John successfully completed a 50K race. Since then Sinead has ran two* 12 hour races and ran a distance of over 100K and finished in second place on both occasions. In November 2015, they took part in an extreme high altitude race in the Atacama Desert of Northern Chile called the Volcano Marathon. It traverses Lascar Volcano which is possibly the most active in the region. In January 2017, Sinead and John took on the World Marathon Challenge. This is an amazing logistical and physical challenge to run a Marathon on each of the Seven Continents within Seven Days. They successfully completed this challenge which included 59 hours of flight time, 43,509Km flight distance as well as 295Km of running. They passed through 15 time zones and survived on very little sleep. But these events don’t just happen and their story is one of Team Building and Team Work. Coping with these extreme challenges isn’t easy and getting the job done requires all the attributes you would associate with keeping your business afloat. Sinead and John will share what it means to be a winning teammate. Understanding team dynamics and what makes them work can lead to greater innovation, increased profit, and happier employees.

This in itself is a very positive reflection on how you view yourself and your company. In fact, you have already set yourself apart and that augurs well for your chances in the competition.
Starting with a modest 300 delegates at the inaugural All Ireland Summit in 2015, this year in 2019, we will welcome more than a 1000 executives to Croke Park.
